CROQUET CARRIES ON

On Saturday 3 April the rain was falling heavily at the Croquet Club and the forecast suggested that this would go on all day! Once we had inspected the lawns it was obvious that play would not be possible until they had a bit of time to dry out. It was somehow predictable that once the message had been sent out to members the weather improved and our official opening at 2pm was able to take place on Lawn 2 with the Mayor striking the first shot of the new season. It was a great pleasure to welcome him and his wife and his 'few words' were much appreciated by the members who attended and later enjoyed a little practice.

With a good forecast for the week our usual club sessions for Golf Croquet and Association should have been possible on Wednesday and the two Open sessions on Thursday  8th  (2-4pm) and Saturday 10th (10 to 12noon) will give interested visitors a chance to have a go. We had a very cheerful Opening Dinner on Saturday evening attended by 44 members and members wrestled with a selection of Croquet Teasers set by the Chairman. The start of the season is always full of promise as we resolve to play more and better croquet. It is also an excellent time for anyone to try the game for the first time as we have our usual Opening Spring Offer of a month's trial membership (including some coaching) for £15. Just get in touch by phone or by dropping in to the club and leaving a message or talking to one of the members.
